Churches Together in Grasmere
Pilgrimage Churches
On 28th November 1999 the three churches of Grasmere: the Methodist Church, Our Lady of the Wayside and St Oswald’s -signed a covenant to demonstrate our unity, which states,
“The signing of this Covenant bears witness to many years of good relationships between the churches in this community and our pledge to seek a deeper unity in the service of God as we enter the third Millennium of the Christian era”.
Pilgrims Together
The three churches work together as closely as possible. For example we have twelve United Services each year, six of which take place on Sunday morning, when there is only one service in the village and we worship together, (picture below on Mothering Sunday).
The members of the three churches come together for social occasions, such as our Pancake Party and for village celebrations like Rushbearing.
Christians in Grasmere come together to study and discuss on Wednesdays both at lunchtime and in the evening Emmaus Groups, in 2006 we also had our first pilgrimage together taking a coach full to Lindisfarne.
Visiting St Mary’s Church and the Priory on Lindisfarne and enjoying a memorable day together.
Our three churches and community are stronger by being a pilgrim people, travelling together the journey of faith.
